The stage adaptation will be set in Melbourne as opposed to the Paris setting in the book. Romeo Montague
Everyone’s lovable, Romeo. All the women want him, and men want to be him. 21 years old, single, rich, naïve and amazingly gorgeous. There is a shock twist and a massive bombshell that is revealed in the book. His character is Greek Orthodox as opposed to Italian decent in the original story.

Natalie replaces the role of the loveable, and at times, (comedic) Nurse. She is exceptionally loyal to her family, especially her husband, who is fighting for the Australian (American in the book) troops in Afghanistan. Natalie is heavily pregnant and awaiting the arrival of her first child.

Jensen
Jensen, another character who has had an overhaul from the original. In the original tale, Jensen is known as the Apothecary who gives Romeo the deadly poison to kill himself. In this version, he is a battling drug addict who provides Romeo with a drug to kill himself. Romeo pays him off so that he can leave the country, and nothing can ever be traced back to him in assisting with the suicide.

Rose, another character with a BIG overhaul. In the original story, she is known as Rosaline, the one that Romeo loves, but she doesn’t love him. She is never visible in the play and she has no lines. In this version, she is given a speaking role, and we are introduced to the reason why she rejected Romeo’s love in the opening sequence of the play after the prologue.
