Open call for Female Singers who Dance, Male Actors who Sing, and Pianists for Alaskan musical

Gold Rush Productions, Inc. in Skagway, Alaska is holding an open call for The Days of ’98 Show with Soapy Smith. An Alaskan tradition since 1923, this colorful vaudevillian musical entertains audiences with the tale of Jefferson Randolph “Soapy” Smith, Alaska’s most notorious outlaw. The Days of ’98 Show features turn-of-the-century tunes, original music, gold rush humor, and the can-can! Salary, housing, and transportation provided in this beautiful cruise ship port. Contract appx. 5 months from late April through September. Must be at least 21 years of age.


Belle Davenport, female, 21-40. The Madame and Soapy’s mistress. Belt/Mix and legit soprano.

Squirrel-Tooth Alice, female, 21-40. Dancehall girl, man-eater, spitfire. Belt/Mix.

Molly Phewclothes, female, 21-40. Dancehall girl, flirty, dizzy. Belt/Mix.

-All female roles require strong vocals, dance, and comic ability. Should have high-kicks for can-can.  Each performer plays two of the three roles in rotation.

Soapy Smith, male, 25-40. A charming and manipulative con-man, he is both hero and villain. Must be comfortable with audience interaction and delivering monologues. Must grow full beard. Dancing not required, but should be a good mover. Seeking a very strong actor with musical ability. Baritone: Low A to D. An historical figure, the show is based on the real events of his life and death.

Pianist. On-stage character. Accompanies the performance. Has a few speaking lines and sings w/ ensemble for one group song.

Female Singers who Dance

Wednesday, January 4th at 9am

-Prepare materials provided at, or 16 bars of an up-tempo song in the correct key.  Copies of sides will be available on day of. Bring headshot, résumé, and songbook. May be asked to stay for dance call. Bring dance attire and jazz shoes.

Male Actors who Sing

Wednesday, January 4th at 2pm

-Prepare materials provided at, or 16 bars of a ballad in the correct key. Copies of sides will be available on day of.  Bring headshot, résumé, and songbook. 


Wednesday, January 4th at 2:15pm

-Prepare the A and B section of one Joplin rag. Bring headshot and résumé. May be asked to sight-read from the show.

Submissions are welcome, however first casting priority goes to those that attend open call.
