Roni Wano is an indigenous grandmother who lives humbly with her clan in the forest. Her life is physically tiring but her connection to the natural world is strong. One day she awakens to realize ancient and sacred trees around her home are marked for clearing. She contemplates the forest as the source of life and love in their last peaceful moments together, and links its demise to the demise of the future.

After the sad realization, she sees her world anew, appreciating the beauty of the ant, trickling of the water and dappled sunlight on her hand. Finally she sees her grandson or daughter and realizes the loss of the forest is the loss of the future.
