About the MA training film
The Magistrates Association (MA) is a registered charity, with a history spanning 650 years, providing a voice for over 23,500 magistrates in England and Wales. Part of our goal is to provide training to support the learning and development of magistrates across the country. The MA, in association with the Judicial College, will be filming a training film aimed at communicating with young people in the courtroom. This short film will be based on real-life courtroom scenarios addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable young people sent to court as well as law professionals who work in these environments.

Script summary
The script explores the challenges with communicating with young people in the youth courts, including how to engage with uncommunicative youths, and vulnerable defendants. The film will cover 4 stages of the courtroom process from the perspective of 3 young people aged between 16-18, and how magistrates and legal professionals communicate with them. The key aim of the film will be to create dynamic learning tools for legal professionals, and to consequently improve the administration of justice.
