Synopsis:

BLACK COMEDY ABOUT A YOUNG MAN WHO LEAVES SMALL-TOWN/SUBURBAN AUSTRALIA AFTER “THE INCIDENT”; RETURNING TO THE FAMILY HOME 20 YEARS LATER TO ALARMING NEWS.

AT 16 OR SO TWO BOYS (JAMES AND MACHIAVELLIAN MATE, DAVID) TEASE AN UNPOPULAR BOY FORCING HIM TO CLIMB A TREE IN JAMES’ BACK YARD. THE BOY FALLS TO HIS DEATH. INSTEAD OF CALLING THE POLICE, THEY STUPIDLY BURY HIM. UNABLE TO COPE WITH A BODY IN THE BACKYARD, JAMES LEAVES TOWN.

FORWARD 20 YEARS: JAMES’ PARENTS HAVE SOLD THE HOUSE FOR A MAJOR COUNCIL REDEVELOPMENT. THAT MEANS DIGGING….

JAMES PRINCE: MALE [AGE: 35-40] – MAIN CHARACTER

James is a well-meaning, slightly scruffy mother’s boy; with poor choice in friends. Unable to handle a body buried in the backyard, James left home in his late teens for a life of aimless drifting; working seasonal jobs from farmhand to barman across the state. He turns to drink to forget the past and has just been beckoned back home.

PATRICIA PRINCE: [FEMALE 60-65]

Doting mother to James, and now looks after husband Arthur, after a stroke/the beginnings of his dementia. Patricia is helped by son Simon who never left home. Fairly typical housewife who loves handy crafts and gardening. One part of her vegetable patch, under the large backyard tree, continues to produce award-winning giant lettuce and other produce. She has become known for it.
