This very ambitious, twenty minute short film is a modern retelling of the classic fairytale of Hansel and Gretel. In this story the father’s culpability is brought into sharp focus in contrast to the original where he is painted as the hapless victim (even as he colludes in the murder of his own children).

Made by a multi-award winning young director, the production values on this film are going to be of a very high standard. We are looking for two young children with exceptional talent. There is a fair amount of dialogue and the actual filming is likely to take at least a week (although maybe not all at once). Experience is great, but absolutely not essential. What we are really looking for is a very natural performance as well as children who can work well together as convincing siblings.

This film will live or die on the performance of Harry and Grace and for the right children this will really showcase their skills as actors.

The finished film will be doing the rounds at all the major festivals. A nominal fee will be paid to the actors as well as travel and accommodation (if required) and so forth.

All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Harry (playing age 10/11)

Harry is in his last year at primary school. He is a protective big brother to Grace and lives with her and his mother. His parents are divorced and he is at an age where he really craves a close relationship with his father who is his male role model. When Craig, his flakey and unreliable father lets him down yet again, Harry is left emotionally vulnerable and his choice leads him into a dangerous situation.

Grace (playing age 7/8)

Grace is a brave and feisty little girl. She looks up to her big brother and although she doesn’t like it when her dad lets her down she doesn’t dwell on it for long. She lives more in the moment than Harry and is still at an age where she loves her parents completely unconditionally and isn’t able to consider them in a negative light. She is definitely a bit cheeky and impulsive, and totally cute and lovable.
