I am a graduated TAFE student making a feature film this year, a very micro-budget and small crewed affair. I have run into an issue. For at least part of the production, our very competent sound guy will be unavailable most week-days. I would like to find a second sound person who would be available weekdays to join the crew as a boom operator / sound recordist. This job is unpaid for budgetary reasons but could be a great credit to have, and food and transport costs will be covered.
I have a tascam DR-60D mixer, an Audio Technica AT897 shotgun microphone, which is remarkably similar in quality and tone to the Rode NTG2, and a homemade boom pole. Additionally, I will probably most of the time be able to borrow a proper boom pole, and if you have one (or a better mixer as well) feel free to bring it.
As for the level of experience required, I don’t expect perfection, but just a basic understanding of the principles of good boom operation and communication skills, and hopefully a love of filmmaking! If you are interested, please get in touch, it is always lovely to meet new filmmaking minded people.
