THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, written by Martin McDonough, directed by Christine Davey (by arrangement with Origin ™ Theatrical, in association with Samuel French) – at Shenton Theatre, Geelong, July 15 – 23.
Set in a small, backwater of a village in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, The ‘Queen’ tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a downtrodden, lonely woman, and Mag her devilishly manipulative mother whose interference in Maureen’s first and potentially last loving relationship sets in motion a train of events that is as gothically funny as it is horrific. Loaded with savage irony, surreal humour and a touch of melodrama, this remarkable play looks at the malevolence of people leading hopeless lives and the lengths they will go to in order to create a change.
THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE will also be the SOOT entrant into the 2016 Victorian Drama League Awards.
