The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc, (CFDA) is a not-for-profit trade association founded in 1962 that leads industry-wide initiatives and whose membership consists of more than 500 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and accessory designers. In addition to hosting the annual CFDA Fashion Awards, which recognize the top creative talent in the industry, the organization offers programs which support professional development and scholarships, including the CFDA {Fashion Incubator}, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the Geoffrey Beene Design Scholar Award, the Liz Claiborne Scholarship Award and the CFDA/Teen Vogue Scholarship. Member support is provided through the Business Services Network, a high-profile group of companies offering designers strategic opportunities. The CFDA Foundation, Inc. is a separate, not-for-profit organized to mobilize the membership to raise funds for charitable causes. Through the Foundation, the CFDA created and manages the worldwide Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative; raises funds for HIV/AIDS organizations with events such as Fashion’s Night Out and 7th on Sale and addresses the issue of model health with The CFDA Health Initiative.


– Prior experience or interest in event planning or a previous internship in fashion
– Previous work experience in budget and database management preferred
– Strong organization skills
– Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Google Drive
– Available beginning January 2017 and will continue on as a full time freelancer through June 2017


The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) is looking for a driven, enthusiastic, and organized freelancer to work full time with our team in the Events and Projects department. The freelancer will support the Senior Associate and Director of Events and Projects with various CFDA events including major events in May and the CFDA Fashion Awards. Main responsibilities include administrative support on day-to-day tasks including but are not limited to, guest list and RSVP management, organizing the events calendar, updating designer contacts, managing guest check-in for events and support on event budget management. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about event planning and various special projects within a growing fashion organization.

The 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place on June 5th in New York City. Full time availability is required.

The annual event recognizes the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.

The CFDA produces over 90 events per year ranging from panel discussions, cocktail parties, professional development seminars and awards.
