DESCRIPTION

The Theater Project, presents The Hunchback of Seville by Cherise Castro Smith. A bitingly funny, madcap take on history, colonialism and power. The production runs September 29 through October 15; rehearsals begin August 28.   Audition date: Monday, Aug 7 , 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM.  

Location: Burgdorff Center for the Arts, 10 Durand Rd, Maplewood, NJ, one block from MidTown Direct train station.  

Seeking an ensemble of 5 women and 3 men who can make bold comic character choices to match the boldness of the script’s zigzagging between contemporary and archaic language.  

Queen Isabella of Spain
Maxima the Terrible – her secret Humpback sister
Princess Juana the Mad, daughter to Isabella
Espanta, the gossipy servant and her assistant, a younger, more saintly servant  

Taleb, Maxima’s lover and algebra tutor – a Moor
Abdul , a servant  

Members of the cast double as Christopher Columbus, Indigenous people of the new world, Spanish Conquistadors, as needed.

AEA Actors appear under Special Appearance contract
Non-union actors will received a stipend.
