DESCRIPTION

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:

This position is responsible for providing assistance to the Assistant Manager, Venue Operations and Audience Services for events taking place in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, Uris Center for Education, Met Breuer, Met Cloisters, Museum galleries, and other spaces.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:

  • Direct and monitor ushering staff, under the direction of the Asst. Manager, Venue Operations and Audience Services during events.

  • Lead pre-event meeting with usher staff to ensure everyone is informed and front of house equipment is working properly.

  • Greet, advise, direct, and seat patrons.

  • Assist people with disabilities and distribute assisted listening devices.

  • Assign and coordinate program stuffing, usher posts, and break schedule during each event.

  • Handle patron questions, requests and problems.

  • Coordinate at events with Security, Custodial, Box Office management, Production, and Program staff.

  • Coordinate the opening and the closing to the public of the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium and Uris Center for Education as well as verify that the public has exited and that the venues are properly restored to their approved state.

  • Prepare and complete post-event reports under the direction of Assistant Manager, Venue Operations and Audience Services.

  • Disseminate safety & emergency information to ushering staff and facilitate Emergency plan actions as directed by Assistant Manager, Venue Operations and Audience Services, and Manager, Venue Operations.

  • Other related duties

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Skills:

  • Strong customer service & leadership skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to operate and mediate in high pressure situations

  • Knowledgeable of theater front of house protocol; familiarity with Met Museum a plus

  • Familiarity assisting guests with disabilities

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

  • Commitment of 35 hours or more monthly required

  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time

  • Must be comfortable communicating via telephone, walkie-talkie, digital messaging apps, etc.
