RUSTY – (Country Music Superstar) got the itch to perform and became a great guitar player by the age of 15. After a year of going nowhere playing at the Prairie Rose Honky Tonk in Texas, he thought of giving music up for good when his big break came via a manager named Lula Rogers. It’s been 10 years since his career shot to stardom status. Now, with most of emotions suppressed, Rusty is a man without love, and his fire for everything is going out. TENOR; LOW: A (1 below mid-C); HIGH: Bb (2 above mid-C)
HARLEY – Rusty’s former girlfriend, a Texas country girl, raised on a ranch. Works at The Prairie Rose Honky Tonk and lives on her late grandfathers ranch, of which she has to sell. Hardened by life and still in love with Rusty, marriage was once in the cards for them. SOPRANO; LOW: F (1 below mid-C); HIGH: Eb (2 above mid-C)
LULA – Rusty’s mentor, manager, and manipulator. Ambitious, obsessive, sexy with a heart of pure titanium. Attaches herself legally and financially (if not emotionally) to Rusty. Though lovers at first, and she pushed, Del would never marry her. BELTER; LOW: F(1 below mid-C); HIGH: Eb (2 above mid-C)
EARL – Incredible musician – guitar, steel, banjo, mandolin – who sacrificed fame and fortune to play the music he loves. Boyhood friend of Rusty and Harley’s. He tried marriage a couple of times, but no woman could ever compete with his music. He’s happy with his life now, playing his music and running the Prairie Rose Honky Tonk. BARI-TENOR; LOW: B (1 below mid-C); HIGH: G (2 above mid-C)
MARTY – Cocky, New York producer, whose credits include reality shows for runway models. Lusts for more of everything and the abject fear of not getting it. CHARACTER ACTOR TENOR; LOW: A (1 below mid-C); HIGH: F (2 above mid-C)
CHARLIE BOLES – A dead ringer for Rusty and country star in training, he dreams and plans on being a star when the moment finally comes. He’s using Lula to help make him a star, completely unaware that she is actually using him. TENOR; LOW: A (1 below mid-C); HIGH: Bb (2 above mid-C)
ENSEMBLE: to play various small roles and dance/move.
