Stretch-n-Grow is the World’s Leading Health & Fitness Programme for Young Children. You can find out more about the company on our UK or US websites.
Summary of job:
This is a fun and fulfilling job if you love exercise and love children! There are only a few hours a week work, but there is a good hourly rate. Full details of the job are below:
Working within the franchise in Altrincham, Sale, Stretford & Chorlton. You must live close to these areas.
A Stretch-n-Grow Coach provides basic physical education for children aged 12 months – 7 years. Coaches follow a pre-planned fun curriculum and teach classes at child care facilities/schools around the area. The Stretch-n-Grow classes last for twenty, thirty or forty-five minutes and are made up of warm-up, aerobics, cool down, games, and also a weekly discussion on a health-related topic. Each month we have a new theme, so for example the coach may be rowing a pirate boat, driving a fire engine or pretending to be various jungle animals!
The Coach is also expected to develop an ongoing positive relationship with the staff at the childcare facility.
All teaching material and equipment are provided.
Required Skills/Attitude :
• Passion for fitness
• Physically fit and flexible
• Must enjoy working with kids and be able to motivate and energise them
• Must be reliable and self-organised
• Must be energetic and enthusiastic & prepared to be silly
Candidates must also have a car.
Training & Development
Initial training will be mostly practical – participating in existing classes until ready to “go it alone”.
Stretch-n-Grow coaches must be prepared to study for the Children’s Exercise & Nutrition Qualification (self study and then on-line exam) – and must pass this within a month of commencing solo classes.
There will also be the expectation that a coach attends a “coach camp” training session every four months.
Hours of work
Most classes are within the hours of 9.30 and 15.00, though there may be some “after school” classes.
There may be requests to teach extra classes during the school holidays, though this is not mandatory.
Hours are flexible and there would be an attempt to fit in with the coach’s preferred days/hours. However, the classes are at a fixed time each week so once agreed, the coach needs to be able to commit to this fixed time for 12 months. Also, the relationship with the children is very important, so a coach needs to feel they can commit to working in the role for at least a year.
Initially the role may be very small, with only a couple of classes a week, gradually building up.
It is expected that a coach will only ever have a maximum of around 20 classes (around 10 hours teaching time a week. )
In addition to teaching classes, a coach is required to learn a new theme each month. The coach will be supported in this by the Franchise owner, but will also be required to run through the routines a few times in his/her own time to become familiar with them.
Coaches are paid £20 per hour for teaching time only, although the rate is higher for a standalone 30 minute class (£12.50 for the 30 minutes) .
Travel time, set up time and personal time rehearsing is not paid for.
Training sessions are paid at £10 per hour.
Insurance & DBS
It is a requirement of the role to have a DBS check carried out , and to have public liability insurance. These will be discussed as part of the recruitment process.
Please note that this a self-employed role, so the coach is expected to invoice the owner of Stretch-n-Grow Sale on a monthly basis.
